Greener Grant Week will bring a full week of Earth Day-themed programs to Suffolk County Community College’s Michael J. Grant Campus, offering students a chance to take part in activities focused on sustainability, environmental awareness, and campus beautification.
The week begins on Monday, April 20, with Planting and Painting with SGA at 12:30 p.m. outside Captree, where students can plant a tree and paint outdoors.
On Tuesday, April 21, students can attend Earth Treats with SGA at 12:30 p.m. in Captree 100. The event will invite students to make Earth-themed cupcakes while learning facts about the environment and sustainability.
Also, on April 21 and 22, Suffolk’s science faculty and ReWild LI will lead Pollinator Garden Prep, giving students the chance to help plant a native pollinator garden on the slope in front of the STEM Building. The flyer encourages students to “get your hands dirty for a great cause.” The event will take place on April 21 at 3:30 p.m. and April 22 at 12:30 p.m. at the STEM Building.
Wednesday will also feature two additional events. Bottles to Bloom with SGA will take place on April 22 at 12:30 p.m. in Captree 113, where plastic bottles will be transformed into flowerpots, giving them a second life through recycling. Later in the week, on Thursday, April 23, students can join a Nature Walk at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Courtyard between Sagtikos and Captree. The walk is described as a guided nature walk with a mindfulness forest professional.
Greener Grant Week will conclude on Friday, April 24, with Butterfly Garden Beautification from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. outside the Sagtikos Arts and Sciences Building.
Taken together, the week’s events reflect a broader effort to connect students with environmental action in simple, hands-on ways. From planting and recycling to walking and beautifying campus spaces, Greener Grant Week encourages students to celebrate Earth Day not just in theory, but through participation.
For students looking to get involved, spend time outdoors, or support sustainability on campus, Greener Grant Week offers a variety of ways to take part while helping make the Grant Campus a little greener.
