Public Safety is on lookout for a suspect involved in two lewdness incidents at the Grant Campus, according to an official email sent to students and faculty from the college. Both incidents involved the suspect exposed his genitals to a Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) employee. The suspect is described as “a thin, tall, black male with short dreadlocks or short braids” between the ages of 17 and 20.
The first occurrence took place on the September 3 in the STEM Building between 8:30 and 8:50pm. The suspect was described wearing a black and red hoodie. The second incident occurred September 19 at around 9:15pm inside the Asharoken Building. Afterward, the suspect was seen being picked up outside the building by “a gray car.”
Neither incident has been recorded in the Grant Campus Daily Crime Log, the list of crimes and incidents reported to SCCC officials to inform the public, a policy mandated by The Clery Act. The website of the Office of Public Affairs says that the Daily Crime Log is updated after two business days of the incident being reported. As of September 20th, the first incident that took place on the 3rd has still yet to be published on the log. It is also unknown why the college waited after the second incident of address the college’s community about what has been happening. The reason they did go public about the incidents is “to assist with the investigation…promote the safety of
all members of the college and campus community, and to aid in the prevention of similar
crimes.”
The Office of Public Safety said they would not answer questions while the investigation is ongoing. Both Captain Edmund Berwick, the senior College Public Safety Officer at Grant, and Ashley Pope, SCCC General Counsel, also declined to comment.
It is unclear what measures are being taken to catch the individual responsible. If you have any information about the incidents or the suspect, you should contact the Office of Public Safety at 631-451-4242.
