Dear WSP Readers,
I’m delighted to introduce the first issue to start off the 2025-2026 school year. With many wonderful submissions, this edition of the Western Student Press touches not only upon real world events like local deportation cases but also on-campus programs that will benefit the students of SCCC. There’s a variety of information page-to-page for this September 2025 issue and that’s all thanks to the writers who contributed their time and effort!
As I always say, none of this would be possible without the WSP Staff who enlighten me with their thoughts time and time again. Our office, room 109 in Captree Commons, has become a place I can always retreat to when I’ve hit a bump in the road. The conversations had in that room, the ideas tossed back and forth, are forever memories I hold near and dear to me. The pride I feel for this paper, as well as the time I’ve dedicated to making it perfect for our readers, is shared with the WSP Staff. They’re the foundation of this paper.
Although this issue is not as full as I would’ve wanted, and we could not fit every valuable article that’s been submitted, it’s something I’m happy to share, nonetheless. No matter what, WSP prioritizes the voices of its students and staff on Grant Campus. Whichever work was not printed, can easily be found on our website (westernstudentpress.com).
As the days grow colder, with the summertime passing us by so soon, I hope this issue allows readers to keep pushing through not only the unimaginable events going on in the world, but also the unspoken battles being fought in private. As said by The Great Gatsby’s Jordan Baker, “life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”
Editorially yours,
Yanci
