Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) has been named a 2025-2026 Military Friendly® School earning a silver designation from militaryfriendly.com. The award follows a comprehensive evaluation of the college’s services using both public data and responses to a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 institutions participated in the 2024-2025 survey with 830 earning special recognition for going above the standard. This marks the sixth consecutive year that the college has earned a Military Friendly® School Designation.
“SCCC has a proud history of helping veterans and military-connected students pursue their educational goals,” said College President Dr. Edward Bonahue.
The college is committed to easing the transition from military service to the classroom and making higher education more accessible for service members and their families. Suffolk offers a wide range of support through its Veterans Resource Centers, located on each campus and staffed by experts in military and veteran benefits. Services are available both in person and virtually for Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists, Veterans, and their dependents. Additionally, the college waives application fees for currently serving individuals, veterans, and their family members.
“SCCC provides service members, veterans, and military families with the flexibility and convenience needed to excel,” said SCCC Director of Veteran Services Shannon O’Neill.
Suffolk’s designation was based on a combination of its survey responses and public data sources. The assessment used a logic-based scoring system to evaluate key performance metrics, including student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence, and loan default rates — both for the general student population and specifically for student veterans.
The 2024-2025 Military Friendly® Schools list will appear in the May and October issues of G.I. Jobs magazine and is also available at www.militaryfriendly.com
